What Is PPC (Pay Per Click)

Pay per click also popularly known as cost per click. It is an internet advertising model which is used to direct the traffic to websites. In this process, advertisers pay the publisher when the ad is clicked. In simple words “the amount spent to get an advertisement clicked”. In broader terms, advertisers typically bid on keyword phrases relevant to their target market. Content sites commonly charge a fixed price per click rather than use a bidding system. PPC “display” advertisements also known as “banner” ads. Websites that utilize PPC ads will display an advertisement when a keyword query matches an advertiser’s keyword list. Such type of advertisements is called sponsored links or sponsored ads.

Purpose of PPC
Pay per click along with cost per impression and cost per order are used to assess the cost effectiveness and profitability of internet marketing. Pay per click has an advantage over cost per impression. Clicks are a way to measure attention and interest. The main purpose of an ad is to generate a click, once a certain number of web impressions are achieved, the quality and placement of the ad will affect click through rates and resulting pay-per-click.

How It Works
Pay-per-click is calculated by dividing the advertising cost by the number of clicks generated by an advertisement.

History
Google started search engine advertising in December 1999. It is allowing advertisers to create text ads for placement on the Google search engine. However PPC was introduced in 2002, until then advertisements were charged at cost-per-thousand impressions. Today, companies such as ad Marketplace, ValueClick and adknowledge offers PPC services.

Disadvantage
Sometimes Google search engine may mislead the PPC. For an example if we type particular website name on Google, then the filtered results which Google shows us should be related with that only but this is not sure that this will always happens. Most of the time it is observed that when we type a particular website name, Google fails to give us relevant result. For an example if we search QUIKR.COM, according to law the filtered result should be come related to Quikr content itself but we have noticed that OLX website is shown on the front page of searching engine. We want to raise the question that, if Google is doing this kind of errors in searching process, then what is the importance of PPC. This kind of negligence by Google can misguide the searching contents for various websites and there will be no use searching relevant websites on Google.
